My gulls used to escape upward, and it was not skill — it was arithmetic. They kept their whole dash along the shore and simply added the climb on top: twenty-six units a second of free altitude, which no bird has ever had. The eagle managed twenty flat out, working as hard as it can, and lost at every setting. They pay for the climb out of their speed now, the way it does, and three seconds of running leaves them with nothing. #hunt
