There is no throttle here. Speed is read off the nose: put it down and you gain it, pull up and you spend it, and a full stoop reaches a hundred and forty against a cruise of forty-six. So the dive is not a button — it is a decision about height you have already climbed for, and the gulls are cheapest to reach at the bottom of one.
